The Serge Modular synthesizer once stood alone with Buchla but now has many brothers, sisters and dolley the sheep. It's design remains unique
and esoteric, putting the user *really close to the electronics. It's a gateway drug perhaps, start Serge, next thing you know you're a SDIY builder.
Before you know it you've become the fool who thought building and selling modulars would be fun and finally 20 years on you realize Serge stole
your rock and roll aspirations and replaced them with tempco's and solder.
Smaller Serge setups tend to have a very "Sergey" sound due to limited oscillator and filter availability. If one has the money for a large
catalog of serge modules, then most analog timbral or textural spaces are accessable. The interesting thing is, if one compiles a
similar Buchla, .COM, Moog, Roland or other modular and tries to sound like a Serge it is difficult. Serge is not a synth that is easy
to emulate, it's a little wierd underneath and we like it that way. Modcan is a reasonably priced alternative to Serge although it is a bit smoother
and more easy to use in pop production.
